Mini DIY- Cap Toe Heels

Thursday, March 22, 2012

I can't begin to tell you how hard I have been searching for a pair of nude and black cap toe heels, and I am using the term loosely because I really have been looking everywhere. The ones I find are either out of my price range or simply don't have the look I want. Just when I was ready to give up, it hits me. Perhaps I can join the trend of cap toe DIYs and make my own. These nude forever21 shoes have been in my closet for maybe 5 years. And while I still wear it, I don't wear it as often. Well glad I didn't get rid of it because now with this new makeover expect to see it make more of my outfit rounds with me this spring and summer.

I used this acrylic paint from Michael's craft store, and a gloss acrylic finish paint from AC Moore. You also need a brush with soft brittle and a masking tape, not pictured. First line up the front of the shoe with masking tape to separate the nude side from the black side. I applied the first coat of black, and allowed 30 minutes to dry, applied a second coat and this time gave it an hour to dry. I repeated the same for the clear gloss. I let it dry over night.
If you are using a leather shoe, you probably don't need the gloss but I used the gloss because the shoe is patent leather and the acrylic wasn't glossy enough to match with the rest of the shoe.

I like how it turned out overall. I have been invited to attend a private event to celebrate the first Ann Taylor concept store in Boston.  I think I will be taking this shoe with me. I also recently received a request to create a graduation lookbook, so stay tuned for that.
